John Dook

This particular Duck family are first found in Glasgow where John Dook, a merchant, had his daughter baptised in 1683.   Her mother's name was given as Elspeth Jack.   John Dook is later found at Kinghorn in Fife (1686) where his younger children were baptised.

The eldest son John became a mariner and in 1706 married Mary Beazley, a Quaker, at Wapping in Middlesex.   There is no evidence of John senior being married in Glasgow, nor of the baptism of his son John there.   It is not known where the family came from before their stay in Glasgow.
