BURROUGHS
Family History
chart

This page is primarily about the BURROUGHS surname, descendants and connected families, starting with Walter Burroughs born about 1766 from Rede in Suffolk.   Any details that you can add, especially corrections, will be gratefully received.   GeoffStone@Wedmore.org.uk

The following table is in sections by generation.   The chart is read from left to right with the earliest generation at the left and the eldest children at the top.   Numbered links to the next section are shown to the right if there are more descendants.   The numbers themselves have no significance, other than their position in the entire Stone family tree.   At the top of each section to the left is a numbered link to the earlier generations, where applicable.

The Fox was built in the late 15th century with the upper floor jettied on the east and south sides.  Many of the roof beams are original, although the roof appears to have been raised at some date.  It is said to be one of the finest 15th century buildings in Bury.
It is not known who built the property or when it became 'The Fox' but it was mentioned in a will of 1689.  After Robert Burroughs died The Fox was run by Robert Parish.  On 29th May 1874 it was sold to H. Goddard for £950 and on 5th January 1878 it was sold, for £1,100, to Greene King who still own the property.
